Deep Cleaning

  • If required, arrange a swab to be taken from the sink drain to act as a pre-clean baseline. This should be done by somebody trained in aseptic sampling techniques. Be careful as the sink may contain hazardous bacteria.
  • Make sure to clean the sink initially using diluted TECcare CONTROL in the NAP sprayer. After cleaning the sink pour 2 fluid oz (c.50ml) of TECcare CONTROL directly into the drain and leave for 15 minutes. This will start to loosen any contamination present.

  • Thoroughly shake the can of TECcare R-FOAM. Pass the tube through the flexible neoprene seal and attach the tube and seal to the can.

  • Insert the tube down into the drain about 6 inches (c.14 cm) and ensure the flexible neoprene seal closely covers the drain.

  • Shake TECcare R-FOAM can vigorously, with the can held upright, as much as possible, slowly press the button to release foam in short bursts of 5 seconds, stopping in between bursts to allow the foam to expand.

It is important not to overfill the drain with foam as excess foam will come back into the sink with the risk of bringing bacteria with it. Try to stop the foam just short of the seal.

  • With the required amount of foam in the drain, slowly withdraw the tube from the drain being careful not to drip anywhere onto another surface. Use an EFFACE wipe to clean the tubing whise withdrawing the tube.

  • Leave the foam in the drain for a minimum of 10 minutes, as time permits (the longer the better).
  • To reuse the sink after a minimum of 10 minutes, turn on the taps and flush the drain.
  • After having flushed the drain, clean the sink again as per above.

  • Re-swab the sink drain as required.

  • If you are concerned about aerosolizing bacteria coming from the the sink and you want to ensure that the drain is completely full of foam then consider covering the sink with a suitable barrier, such as cling film or paper, to act a a barrier between the sink and the environment while the foam is in the sink. Once the foam is washed away the barrier can be removed and disposed of safely.

Routine Cleaning

The frequency of routine cleaning depends on how dirty the drain was in the first instance, but the aim is only to routinely clean the sink on a weekly basis. If the sink remains clean in between weekly cleans as evidenced by interim swabbing, then the frequency of cleaning can be extended to bi-weekly.

  • Repeat the same deep cleaning protocol for routine cleaning.
